Zack is responsible for driving vision, outcomes and decisions on the Growth Team, which helps GlossGenius members grow their businesses.
Can You Tell Us About Your Role at GlossGenius?
I am the Engineering Manager for the Growth Team! My day consists of working cross-functionally with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers on my team to identify and tackle high-impact projects that directly relate to revenue generation. These projects have included delivering new subscription plans for our users (and getting them to adopt them), leveraging AI to enhance our product offerings, and making sure our customers have the best onboarding experience possible.
I also work with other Engineering leaders to evaluate timelines and roadmaps, ensuring projects are staffed appropriately. I participate heavily in the hiring process, regularly conducting interviews and reviewing packets for open positions on my team.
I strive to create an environment on my team where everyone has the opportunity to voice their ideas, work to solve issues proactively and grow in their career.
GlossGenius Is Customer Obsessed. How Does This Show Up in Your Work?
This value is near and dear to my heart, as I was raised primarily by my mom, a self-employed hairdresser. I remember spending time in salons as a child, running around to get supplies, and even playing accountant by tallying up the week's earnings before she went to the bank. I’m always thinking about how to make things easier, automate away complexity, and reduce friction in the experiences we deliver. Our professionals’ passion lies in their art, and taking away the burden of being a business owner allows them to thrive and express themselves.
We Emphasize Moving Fast with Excellence. How Do You Accomplish This?
As part of the Growth Team, we have a unique perspective when it comes to finding the right balance. Many of the projects we work on are conducted as experiments, allowing us to quickly put them in the hands of customers to validate our assumptions. Once they are validated, we work hard and fast to make any necessary improvements and provide the best possible experience for our customers. From an engineering standpoint, we ensure that there is appropriate test coverage and monitoring in place to ensure the success of our customers. We seek to identify and address issues before they even become noticeable to customers.
What Are You Excited to Work on Right Now?
I'm thrilled to keep exploring ways to create the best possible onboarding experience and customize it to meet each user's specific needs. Since we work with a wide range of beauty businesses in different sizes and sectors, tailoring the experience is crucial to ensuring their success on our platform.
How Have You Grown Professionally Since Joining Our Team?
I have learned the importance of maintaining high expectations through direct communication and addressing issues head-on instead of avoiding them. In previous work environments, I often had to navigate around various problems because confronting them would halt progress. However, at GlossGenius, the focus is on pushing forward and we are encouraged to confront major challenges because we understand that doing so will lead to long-term improvement.
