Danielle is a Product Marketing Manager on our Go-to-Market team, and joined us in April 2023. Read on to learn about how our Product Marketing team operates and stays close to customers so that we deliver world-class features for our customers.

Can You Tell Us About Your Role At GlossGenius?

As a Product Marketing Manager at GlossGenius, I am responsible for driving go-to-market for new features, generating customer insights for product development and marketing campaigns, and developing positioning and messaging for the company. Product Marketing is a small but mighty team of two(!), which means we get to work across all our product teams, getting visibility into everything we are building. Product Marketing sits on the Go-To-Market team at GlossGenius, however we work quite closely cross-functionally – particularly with Product, Creative, and CX.

What Have You Found Unique About GlossGenius?

Our team! Our team brings a unique combination of impressive talent and genuine kindness – and we are brought together by shared commitment to the success of our customers. We set very high standards for ourselves and the solutions we deliver. Our shared values ensure that no project is considered complete until we are truly proud of the end result. This dedication extends to a deep understanding of our customers, their needs, and how we can evolve to serve them better.

GlossGenius Is Customer Obsessed. What Does This Mean In Practice?

At GlossGenius, being customer-obsessed is more than a motto – it's the cornerstone of our success. This philosophy means that we thrive only when our customers do. It demands a profound understanding of our customers' needs, challenges, and aspirations, enabling us to craft experiences that far surpass their expectations. Our approach is rooted in an insatiable curiosity about our customers and a mindset that places them at the forefront of everything we do.

The Product Marketing team monitors all channels for customer feedback on a daily basis, analyzing reviews, community group threads, chatter on social, and sales conversations to gather insights that can inform and inspire our team. In recent months, we have established a “Feature Feedback Hub'' to streamline the collection and dissemination of both positive feedback and customer love, as well constructive feedback across the organization. This guides us in thinking about where to make investments – where to double down and where we need to improve or iterate.

We Value Moving Fast With Excellence. How Do You Balance This?

Striking the right balance between moving fast and excellence in our work at GlossGenius is something I manage with a strategy centered around ruthless prioritization. Within the dynamic sphere of Product Marketing, we're plugging into a ton of cross-functional projects as an owner, partner, or reviewer. What this means is that there could be 99 projects in front of us on any given day. I am a firm believer in, "If you try to do everything, you'll do nothing well." We constantly evaluate priorities and establish what has the highest impact on our customers and organization. We then act on those top priorities with the ultimate urgency, giving our 100% to whatever is top of the list.

What’s Something You’re Really Excited to Work on Right Now?

Currently, I'm wrapping up a particular user research project. One of the goals of this research was understanding where the market of Salon & Spa Software is falling short of businesses’ core needs, and putting a framework together for how those core needs differ by varying factors like business size, dynamic, and previous software solution!

Engaging directly with our amazing users is, without a doubt, the best part of the job! Our community inspires me, many of them somehow operating as artists, business owners, operators, mentors, marketers, and even therapists to their clients, in one. Throughout my time at GlossGenius, I have participated in dozens of customer interviews, diving deep into our community’s everyday challenges in business management and expansion.

I have observed the impact GlossGenius has had on their success, how they decide to switch software solutions and what that transition is like, as well as where they are looking for solutions in the industry to level up. These conversations provide invaluable insights that are critical to my role, guiding the direction of our messaging, company positioning, and the development of our product roadmap. They also inspire the ways we design and build features, ensuring that every step we take is aligned with the needs and aspirations of our users.

How Have You Grown Professionally Since Joining Our Team?

Starting as the first official product marketer at GlossGenius, there was no playbook or set path for success. It was up to me to figure it out – to create our processes, figure out the best ways to work across different teams, where to prioritize, and how to set our standards for success. This challenge meant navigating unknowns and building from the ground up, and these unknowns were an opportunity to innovate.

This experience has highlighted that great communication truly is a superpower, enabling us to achieve ambitious goals more efficiently. I have learned to stay super close with my counterparts across the organization, which has allowed us to collaborate more efficiently and more easily navigate complex challenges as well as bring our visions to life!

GlossGenius is actively hiring across many departments – check out our open roles here.
