In order to make a client look beautiful, you first have to make sure they are comfortable. As someone who deals with the most intimate of beauty services, Linda Jordin understands this as well as anyone. Linda runs Bare Necessities Skin and Wax in Lynnwood, Washington, specializing in Brazilian waxing and sugaring treatments.
“I really put a lot of emphasis on making people feel very comfortable. If they’re not comfortable then they’re not going to want to come back, and it’s a very intimate service.”
Before she moved into the beauty space, Linda was a medical biller for eight years. After getting eyelash extensions herself, she believed it could be a great side hustle and enrolled in school to become an esthetician – working her full time job during the day and learning in the evenings.
In 2012, Linda graduated and worked evenings and Saturdays for local beauty salons, and by 2015, she was ready to go independent. Before long, Linda was able to quit her job as a medical biller and went full time as a waxing and sugaring professional.
"When you go to school, you end up learning all these different things and I found that I was good at waxing and sugaring and facials," says Linda. "After three years of working for other people in my spare time, I decided to open up my own business doing the same thing. And all of a sudden, I realized I was making more working two to three hours a night than I did all eight hours during the day and decided to quit my day job. I really put a lot of emphasis on making people feel very comfortable. If they're not comfortable then they're not going to want to come back, and it's a very intimate service. So I learn about them, I remember about them, I check in with them as I'm doing the service to make sure that they're comfortable and doing fine. I'm just very personable and it works."
Having worked in a variety of salons before she went independent, Linda had been exposed to several salon apps, including Vagaro and MindBody, both of which she found cumbersome to use. She tried StyleSeat for Bare Necessities but got frustrated when they started charging her clients for cancelling within 24 hours and inflated prices for what they considered 'hot spots.' After looking around for another scheduling system, Linda found that GlossGenius was recommended by estheticians in multiple groups she is a member of and decided to give it a go.
“My clients often tell me that they find GlossGenius very easy to maneuver.”
In January 2020, Linda signed up for GlossGenius' White Glove service and the company transferred all of Bare Necessities' client information, notes, upcoming appointments, and services for free and in a matter of days. She was instantly happy to have both a low flat fee of 2.6 percent on payment processing for her business and absolute control over what her clients are charged for services, appointments, and cancellations.
When the lockdowns lifted, Linda was able to let all of her clients know she was back in business in an instant with GlossGenius' email and text marketing features, which she still uses to let her clients know when she has openings. GlossGenius' automatic appointment reminders handle the rest of her communications, which her clients appreciate and have minimized cancellations and no-shows.
"My clients often tell me that they find GlossGenius very easy to maneuver," says Linda. "I went on Vagaro and Mindbody as a client would go on them and first you have to download an app and second I found them difficult to maneuver. StyleSeat did things I wouldn't have done that they were benefiting from – not my clients – so I just was getting frustrated with them and felt like they were getting a bit greedy. I haven't had any problems with GlossGenius and neither have my clients – everybody just loves how easy my booking site is to use. They can schedule and reschedule without having to contact me, even if it's two o'clock in the morning."
At the beginning of 2021, Linda increased her prices by five dollars and is still $20 less expensive than local alternatives. But what really changed her business was when a client timed her and pointed out that Linda did a perfect Brazilian in just seven minutes.
“As a result, Linda enjoys an 80 percent-plus rebooking rate and has doubled her income year over year.”
GlossGenius allows her clients to leave a card on file and because the checkout experience is so efficient, Linda realized she could reduce her booking increments to 15 minutes, including adding any notes to a client's profile, payment processing, and rebooking the client for their next appointment. As a result, Linda enjoys an 80 percent-plus rebooking rate and has doubled her income year over year.
“The fact that so many of my clients refer their friends and family to me is my biggest success, and thanks to GlossGenius, I’m doing better than I ever thought possible.”
"With GlossGenius, the checkout experience – from putting in what service was delivered, taking tips, and then rebooking – is very, very simple to use," says Linda. "You pick the date and time, it automatically populates the client's name and the services they just had for the same amount of time. People actually love the fact that the card stays on file – probably 95 percent of my clients leave their card on file – and I really like the tipping piece as I can default to 20 percent and the majority of people just leave it there, so that's really helpful. With GlossGenius, I have around 200 five-star reviews on my website – which I would not have felt comfortable asking for myself – and I'm always booked. The fact that so many of my clients refer their friends and family to me is my biggest success, and thanks to GlossGenius, I'm doing better than I ever thought possible. I've recommended GlossGenius to so many people and will continue to do so."
