As someone who deals with the most intimate of beauty services, Linda Jordin understands this as well as anyone. Linda runs Bare Necessities Skin and Wax in Lynnwood, Washington, specializing in Brazilian waxing and sugaring treatments.

Before she moved into the beauty space, Linda was a medical biller for eight years. After getting eyelash extensions herself, she believed it could be a great side hustle and enrolled in school to become an esthetician – working her full time job during the day and learning in the evenings.

In 2012, Linda graduated and worked evenings and Saturdays for local beauty salons, and by 2015, she was ready to go independent. Before long, Linda was able to quit her job as a medical biller and went full time as a waxing and sugaring professional.

"When you go to school, you end up learning all these different things and I found that I was good at waxing and sugaring and facials," says Linda. "After three years of working for other people in my spare time, I decided to open up my own business doing the same thing. And all of a sudden, I realized I was making more working two to three hours a night than I did all eight hours during the day and decided to quit my day job. I really put a lot of emphasis on making people feel very comfortable. If they're not comfortable then they're not going to want to come back, and it's a very intimate service. So I learn about them, I remember about them, I check in with them as I'm doing the service to make sure that they're comfortable and doing fine. I'm just very personable and it works."

Saying 'No' to Cumbersome and Greedy Apps

Having worked in a variety of salons before she went independent, Linda had been exposed to several salon apps, including Vagaro and MindBody, both of which she found cumbersome to use.
