1. Use Natural Lighting
Always put the focus of the photo towards the light source. Light from behind will wash out the client, and light directly over the client will deliver harsh shadows.
Avoid fluorescent lighting, it can wash out colors.
Shoot early in the morning before the sun gets too hot.
Use a lighting accessory add-on if you’re taking photos on your camera phone.
For make-up artists: Multiple facial expressions will bring out different aspects of your makeup. Have your client try a few poses: smiling, serious, candid, etc.
Use simple, natural filters which show off your work. Don’t pick a filter that won’t let the true colors of your work shine through.
Filters that increase the warmth, exposure and contrast of your snaps are most likely to lead to more likes. (e.g. Mayfair, Valencia)
Never use a filter for colored hair. It will change the coloring of the original photo. Make sure that potential clients are seeing your original masterpiece!
